Before moving to the Australian Rule Football George Horlin-Smith was a promising cricketer and co-captained the Australian U-16

cricket team to the West Indies in 2008 but decided to pursue his love for football. The 22 year old from Adelaide, South Australia was

recruited and drafted by Geelong, 37th overall, during the 2010 National Draft from Sturt in SANFL. He debuted for Geelong in the NAB

Cup but injured his shoulder during the pre-season.

Due to his injury, he had a very hard time to penetrate Geelong’s senior team but he managed to play for Geelong’s VFL side. In VFL, he got

a premiership medal and the Norm Gross Memorial Medal for best player in the field during the finals game.

Horlin-Smith was also a recipient of the Rising Star nomination in Round 4 of the 2013 season.
